Obituary:
THE LATE MR. W. E. SMART.
With the passing of Mr. William Emery Smart, who died suddenly on Monday last at the age of 57 years, Chandada district has lost one of its most respected and well-known citizens. Mr. Smart was born at Port Germein in the year 1877. In 1903 he came to Streaky Bay and settled down to farming on Gibson's Peninsula. After residing a number of years at Gibson's Peninsula he decided to go to Piednippie where he settled on what is known as Waulgie Farm. In 1919 he left the latter district and took up land at Chandada where he resided throughout the remainder of his life. During the period ol Mr. Smart's residence at Chandada he became actively associated with practically every movement formed in connection with that district. In 1927 he was elected chairman of the Chandada Sports Committee, which office he maintained until the time of his death. He was also chairman of the Chandada School Committee for many years, secretary to the Hall Committee of the same district and an active member of the Bureau of Agriculture. Mr. Smart was a most open hearted man, always ready to give assistance to anyone in need or to any cause. Deceased, who was twice married, leaves a widow (formerly Miss Doris Harvey, of Meadows), six daughters, and four sons.
