Around 1917-1919 Jess worked for The Implement Co.
From an early stage in her career Jessie was in charge of the ledger office first at The Implement Co., and then Gamblings Ltd., a transport, shipping & customs agency in Pirie street Adelaide. (Gamblings was eventually taken over by Mayne Nickless Ltd.)

"my dear boy you will be glad to hear that Jessie has "fell on her feet", one of the men enlisted from their place, & she has been given his position with 2/6 to start. She has now charge of the commissions of Suspense Ledger, has an office to herself and feels about a foot taller, the head ledger keeper told Annie he was going to push her for all he was worth. Their [sic] was not a girl in the office more suited to fill the position and I feel very proud it was given to her".

Miss Jessie Anderson, who was visiting her brother, Mr. Eric Anderson, during Christmas returned to the metropolis last week.

As a young woman Jessie bought a Ford Anglia car in Melbourne and her brother Eric drove it to Adelaide for her, at the accepted 'running-in' speed for cars at the time - 30mph.

Gell celebrated her 90th birthday at the Joslin Christian Rest Home in March 1988.

ANDERSON, Vesta Jessie (Gell). - Formerly of Kent Town, passed away on June 8, 1989, at the Christian Rest Homes, Joslin. Dearly loved youngest daughter of the late John and Mary, loved sister of Jim, Harry, Eric, Anne, Don and Ivan, (all deceased), much loved by her nephews and nieces. Aged 91 years. Dearly loved aunt of Jean and Frank, great-aunt of Kenneth, Marlene, Michelle and Kylie; Beverley, Tom, Darren and Rebecca; Don and Claire; Jill, Rua and Kimihana. Special thanks to Matron and staff of CRH, Joslin. At rest.
