The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser (SA : 1880 - 1954) Wed 10 Nov 1954
Death of Cherryville Lady:
The community of Cherryville was deeply shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Samuel Bungey, who passed away on Tuesday. Although Mrs. Bungey had been ill in hospital for some weeks previously, she had returned home and appeared to be progressing satisfactorily.
However, a sudden turn for the worse occurred on Tuesday and she.passed away in a very short time. She was attended by Dr. Max Reid.
Mrs. Bungey was of a retiring disposition, but willingly helped "behind the scenes," for any local social activity. She attended the Baptist Church and also played in the tennis team for several years, until this year.
Very deep sympathy is felt, for Mr. (Bungey and his three sons, Ross, Neill and Bruce, who live at home and his only daughter (Doreen), Mrs. John Potts, of Nurioopta(sic), in their sad loss. Mrs. Bungey was a daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. C. Jennings, of Ashton.
The large gathering at the graveside on Thursday was evidence of the esteem in which Mrs. Bungey was held in this and surrounding districts.
Rev. Gowans conducted the funeral service.
