Northern Times (Carnavon WA) Saturday 23 May 1936 Wedding Bells. SMART-BIGNELL. A very pretty wedding was solemnised by the Rev. S. T. Vickery, at Port Hedland, between Miss D. Bignell, only daughter of Mr. James Bignell, of Brunswick Junction, and Mr. Dave Smart of Strelley station, Port Hedland. In the absence of her father, Mr. R. Peacock gave the bride away. She wore an attractive frock comprising a delicate shade of pale pink mattelasse, with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a sheaf of toning roses. Miss Sheila Meiklejohn acted as bridesmaid, her frock being rose pink moracain trimmed with coffee-colored lace. She wore hat and shoes to tone. Mr. F. Butterick carried out the duties of best man. The breakfast was partaken of at the residence of Mrs. M. E. Meiklejohn, and Mrs. Meikiejohn as hostess received her guests in a frock of blue floral morocain. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Taplin, Mr. and Mrs. Lawson, Mr. and Mrs. R. Peacock, Mrs. Grey, Misses Gwen and Sheila Meiklejohn and Alma Kellow, and Messrs. Mead, Butterick, Lawson, and Gordon Meiklejohn. The Rev. S. T. Vickery presided at the breakfast. After the toast of the King had been honored, Mr. J. Mead, supported by Mr. L. E. Taplin, proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom. Mr. W. Grey proposed the toast of the bridesmaid, and Mr. F. Butterick responded on her behalf. The toast to the parents of the bride and bridegroom, and absent friends, was proposed by Mr. Vickery and responded to by Mr. R. Peacock. Mr. H. Lawson then called for the toast on behalf of the hostess and her son responded. The toast of the "Presiding clergyman was proposed by Mr. Butterick. The bride and bridegroom will make their home at Strelley station.
