SUPREME COURT.- MATRIMONIAL JURISDICTION.
Monday, July 30. [Before Mr. Justice Boucaut] KLAFFUS V KLAFFUS.
This was a suit by the wife for a dissolution of marriage on the grounds of adultery and cruelty. Mr. Homburg appeared for the petitioner, Johanne Caroline Matilde Klaffus and the respondent did not appear. The parties were married at Tanunda on February 9, 1864, and subsequently lived at Bethany and Duttontown. There have been five children issue of the marriage. The alleged adultery was charged as against persons named Sielander and Newdick, besides divers lubras or aboriginal females. Petitioner set out that during the petitioner's last confinement the respondent struck her whilst in bed, causing her to be seriously ill for eleven weeks. As the petitioner's proctor had not filed the order of the Court for trial by affidavit His Honor did not intimate how he would report to the Full Court on the facts before him, but stated that on the order being filed he would do so. The Court then adjourned.

Johanne married Carl Gustav KLAFFUS [1577] [MRIN: 528] on 23 Feb 1864 in Lutheran Church, Langmeil, South Australia. (Carl Gustav KLAFFUS [1577] was born on 17 Mar 1843 in Silesia, Germany and died in 1912 in Jamestown, South Australia.)
