Burra Record Wednesday 28 Sepember 1904 The 'appy 'ome. Klaffus v Klaffus. Charles Gustav Klaffus was proceeded against by his wife for a protection order under the Married Womans' Act. The woman said her husband has only paid her 10s in five years. Mr. Winnall, who appeared for the informant, said she was prepared to go on maintaining herself, but would like the protection of the court against the defendant, and to secure the custody of her young son. By this time Klaffus strolled into Court in a sort of merry condition, and waltzed up to the railing, where he saw his wife in the box. 'Hallo, my dear!' he exclaimed. Mr Hinde wanted to know who it was, and was told it was the defendant. 'Oh,' said the S.M., 'that puts a different complexion on the case, we must hear Mr Klaffus.' But the well-known fencer was beyond making a speech, excepting to inform the Bench that 'I don't give her anything because I don't want to keep other people.' Mr. Hinde: I give an order for the custody of the son, and also an order preventing the defendant cohabiting with his wife. "Oh, I say noddings 'gainst dat," said Charles, and left the Court after giving a cheer to himself.
Charles married Johanne Caroline Matilda ALDENHOVEN [1578] [MRIN: 528] on 23 Feb 1864 in Lutheran Church, Langmeil, South Australia. (Johanne Caroline Matilda ALDENHOVEN [1578] was born about 1845.)
Charles next married Wilhelmina Matilda SEELANDER [1579] [MRIN: 529] on 17 Nov 1891 in Lutheran Parsonage, Brighton, South Australia. (Wilhelmina Matilda SEELANDER [1579] was born on 27 Aug 1846 in Adelaide, South Australia and died on 7 Jan 1947 in Burra, South Australia.)
