PERSONAL NEWS.
On Wednesday evening Mr. W.S. Padman gave a dinner to Mr. Keith Bowyer Hocking, who is a member of the Third Expeditionary Force for the front. Mr. F. Langlois, on behalf of a number of the staff of Messrs. Goode. Durrant, & Co., presented the guest with a gold-mounted tobacco pouch, and expressed the wish that before long they would be able to say to him "And now you're coming home again."

The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) Tue 19 Sep 1916
ON ACTIVE SERVICE:
A HOT BATTLE.
Private Keith Bowyer Hocking writes:- "At last we have all had what we have been looking for for such a long time. We have just come out of a real hot battle, and I don't think that, now we have been through it, we are looking for the same thing again for some time. It is Hell with a big H. and the sights we see are awful, but still I came out of it all right undamaged, and now I've had some decent tucker and a good sleep I am feeling tres bon. I thought I would be in a horrible funk, but I was surprised to find I was not even nervous till I had been carrying for about 15 hours without a break. Then I was just going into a dugout for another case when a shell burst so close as to spread earth all over me and knocked me back with the force of the explosion, and then I did feel shaky for some time. Dave Evans (son of Dr. Evans, Hindmarsh) stopped one through the leg while carrying with me, but it was a good clean one, and should not worry him much."
[We have received for publication many copies of the official letter expressing the sympathy of the King and Queen sent to relations of soldiers who have been killed in action or died as the result of wounds or sickness. As the same form of letter or telegram is sent in every instance, there is no occasion to publish it in connection with individual cases]
