New (Adelaide) Monday 25 June 1945 Passing by Mr. Pim OLDEST IN HILLS A READER disagrees with my suggestion that Mr. Charles Ashburst, of Bridgewater is the oldest living native of the Adelaide Hills. He nominates for the title Mrs. Thomas Jacobs, of Cherry Gardens, who is a few months older than Mr. Ashhurst. She celebrated her eighty-sixth birthday on Thursday, the day my paragraph appeared. Like Mr. Ashhurst, Mrs. Jacobs has lived in one town since she was born. Thirteen of her 14 children are still alive, the other one having been killed in World War I. There are 43 grandchildren living, as well as 21 great-grandchildren. Elijah Broadbent, her father, came out in the Buffalo with Governor Hindmarsh, and was one of the three founders of Cherry Gardens.
Maria married Thomas JACOBS [4973] [MRIN: 1653], son of Isaac JACOBS [7476] and Elizabeth DAY [7477], on 15 Mar 1877 in Wesleyan Church, Cherry Gardens, South Australia. (Thomas JACOBS [4973] was born on 28 Aug 1852 in Cherry Gardens, South Australia, died on 30 Aug 1923 in Cherry Gardens, South Australia and was buried in Cherry Gardens Cemetery, South Australia.)
