Burra Record (SA : 1878 - 1954) Tue 11 Jan 1938 Page 3 THOMAS McBRIDE. The death of Mr Thomas McBride, which occurred at his home, Henley Beach road, New Mile End, on 5th January, removes a well-known naturalist from this district. Born at 'The Gums' station, then owned by his late father, the late James Martin McBride, he was the fourth son and 68 years of age. His life was spent out in these areas and for many years he was the the owner of Red cliff station. For some time his health had not been good but it is only about six months ago, because of his health he was forced to retire from pastoral duties. He married Miss Rose Bullen, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. Bullen, of Kooringa, who survives, also a family of 10 children, seven surviving sons, viz, Messrs Reuben McBride, of West Aus; Clem and Claude, of Adelaide; Jim, Eudunda; Keith, of Redcliff station; Charles, of Mt. Pleasant and Geoffery, of Adelaide; three daughters. Dot, Mrs T. H. Reynolds; Cora, Mrs H. Webb and Sylvia, Mrs S. Bull. The two latter reside in West Australia. His eldest son, Lieut. Norman McBride was killed in Palestine in the Great War.There are a number of grandchildren. The funeral took place at Kooringa on Thursday afternoon, when there was a most representative attendance. The service was conducted by the Rev. A.J. Finch (Methodist) of Plympton, an old friend of the deceased gentleman.
