The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) Fri 15 Jul 1910 Page 5 MAGISTRATES' COURT - HINDMARSH. Thursday, July 14. (Before Messrs. A. Puddy and J. Chittleborough.) Albert Wallace and Michael McFarrelI were charged, on the information of Robert Cartwright, with having stolen 12/ from the till of the Gas Works Hotel, Brompton, on Wednesday, July 13. Sergeant Radford conducted the case for the prosecution. Evidence was given by Robert Cartwright and his daughter, Fanny Cartwright. The latter said Wallace asked for two butchers of beer, which he paid for, and she gave him change. She left the bar for a few minutes, and heard the till rattle. When she returned Wallace was standing with his back aganst the bar, and McFarrell was sitting down. She examined the till, and found three shilling and some smaller money. About 12/ was missing. She could not identify the money produced in court. Constable Moulden said he arrested the accused at the Bowden Railway-station. Both men told him they had not taken the money. The accused elected to be dealt with by the court and pleaded not quilty. They stated that another person was in the bar when they were there. The bench were of the opinion that the case was suspicious, but discharged the accused.
