Jean married Lawrence Charles Raymond HUGHES [1137] [MRIN: 399], son of Alfred Lawrence HUGHES [247] and Ethel Blanche Watts HERON [388], on 24 Feb 1944 in Methodist Church, Pirie Street, Adelaide. (Lawrence Charles Raymond HUGHES [1137] was born on 21 May 1918 in Willowie, South Australia, died on 9 Sep 1992 in Daw Park, South Australia and was cremated on 10 Sep 1992 in Centennial Park Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia.)

HUGHES- HARRIS
A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Pirie St Methodist Church on February 24th, when Jean, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Alf Harris (late of Cowell) was married to Sgt Ray Hughes (returned), youngest son of Mr and the late Mrs A L Hughes, of Wilmington. Rev W O Harris officiated. The bride, who entered the church with her mother, was gowned in white satin prettily beaded in silver, cut on slimming lines and merged into a long train, finished with a spray of orange blossom. The bride wore her mother's veil held in place with a coronet of orange blossom (also worn by her mother) and carried a sheaf of mixed white flowers. She was attended by Mrs Russel Lewis (matron of honour) and Miss Doreen Galle (cousin of the bride). Bridesmaid, both frocked alike in white net over satin, trimmed with lace and wore blue mittens and topnots of real flowers, and carried sheafs of pink gladioli. The groom was attended by Sgt Jack Hately (bestman) and Cpl Tom Tuckwell (groomsman) All of the 9th Cav Com.Div. Whilst the register was being signed Mr Stan Watson sang "I'll Walk Beside You". After the ceremony, relatives and friends were entertained at the bride's mother's home, where the following toasts were honoured, "The King" by Mr Don Harris with musical honours. "The Forces'" Mr Stan Hunt (returned World War No I) 'Bride and Bridegroom' Rev Harris (who christened the bride when a babe). The bridegroom responded and proposed the toast of the "bridesmaids'. Sgt Hately responded and read the many telegrams received. The toast "our hostess" was proposed by Mr H L Berridge, an old friend of the family. Mr Don Harris responded for his aunt. Solos were rendered by Mrs Arthur Harris, who sang "Your eyes have told me so," and Messrs Tom Cooper and L Barrett who sang "The Sunshine of your Smile" and "Because" respectively, The bride's mother wore a blue-grey suit trimmed with navy and wore navy accessories, with a silver fox fur. Mrs G Barrett (sister of the groom) was frocked in navy with shoulder spray of autumn flowers. The happy couple left for their honeymoon, the bride wearing a blue ensemble, with navy hat and accessories, amid showers of confetti.
