PICTURESQUE CAREER.
Following a short illness, during which he was operated on at the Mt. Gambier Hospital, Mr. Ad. Kieselbach died yesterday at the age of 88.

He was one of the town's oldest and most widely known identities, having first come here in 1854. Although he had been in failing health for several years, he did not become seriously ill until a few days ago, and entered the Mount Gambier Hospital. He came through an operation, but succumbed during yesterday afternoon.
NATIVE OF BERLIN
Born in Berlin on November 13, 1848, Mr. Kieselbach, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Kieselbach, goldsmiths, left for Australia, with his parents in the sailing ship Australasia in July, 1849, and arrived at Adelaide in September of the following year. After a few years in and around Adelaide, Mr. Kieselbach went to the Victorian gold fields for three years, and walked to Mount Gambler in 1854. In the following year the family arrived at Portland in the White Swan, travelling on to Mount Gambier by bullock dray. They lived at what is known as Fartch's farm, Suttontown, for some years, and then took up land at Allendale. This property is still held by Mr. Albert Kieselbach. Mr. Kieselbach had a varied business career. He conducted a bakery at Millicent when the drains were under construction, and 52 years ago had a bakery near the "Border Watch" office. He was the first proprietor of the Mount Gambier Coffee Palace, now known as the Palace Hotel, and was interested in various other business ventures.
Mr. Kieselbach belonged to the Forresters Lodge for many years and went through all the offices, including the position of treasurer for six years. He was also a leading member of the old German Club.
STOOD FOR PARLIAMENT
Mr. Kieselbach took a keen interest in public affairs and was an advocate of the sugar beet industry and, marketing reform. In pursuance of his ideas in this direction he stood for Parliament, but without success.
On December 6, 1873, deceased was married at Mount Gambier by Rev. R. A. Caldwell to Miss Mary Ann Steele. His wife predeceased him in 1909.
Surviving members of Mr. Kieselbach's family are Messrs. Henry, Mt. Gambier; Donald, Glencoe; Albert, Adelaide, and Mrs. H. Norcock, of the Stockade, Adelaide. One child died at the age of 17 during an influenza epidemic. Messrs. Harry Kieselbach, Wagga, Albert Kieselbach, Allendale, and Paul Kieselbach, Adelaide, are brothers, and Mrs. J. Wallace, of Halam, Victoria, is a sister. There are four generations of the Kieselbach family. The funeral is advertised for Sunday, at 3 p.m.
