Mount Torrens Pioneer
There are some hardy old pioneers in the hiils. Mr. Shannon. M.P., told me yesterday that he had met 92 years-old Mr. Benjamin Bartholomew at Mount Torrens reunion celebrations the other day. The nonagenarian, born at the New Tiers between Basket. Range and Norton's Summit, has spent a lifetime in the hills. He still potters about, and is remarkably well preserved for his years. He and three succeeding generations went back to Mount Torrens school. The others were his son Ben (secretary of Mount Pleasant Show). Ben's son. R. K. Bartholomew, of Lobethal, and the latter's daughter.

OBITUARY
Mr. Benjamin Bartholomew
The death occurred at Mount Torrens on March 28, of Mr. Benjamin Bartholomew, in his 93rd year. The late Mr. Bartholomew was the oldest resident in Mount Torrens and had always taken a keen interest in town and district affairs. He was born at New Tiers, near Cobbledick's Swamps, and came to Mount Torrens at the age of three years. For four years he was apprenticed to Mr. T. Putland on a farm at Yankalilla. Later at Mount Torrens he was apprenticed to Mr. G. Sayers, bootmaker, and eventually bought the business which he carried on for 65 years until his retirement. For the past few years he had lived with his son, Mr. B. T. Bartholomew.
The late Mr. Bartholomew was a wonderfully preserved man, in full possession of all his faculties to the end. He had a quiet pleasant disposition and made a host of friends.
Members of his family are Mr. E. Bartholomew (Norwood), Mrs. T. McKenzie (Kapunda), Mr. B. T. Bartholomew (Mount Torrens), Mrs. W. E. Wood (Mount Torrens), Mrs. R. J. Hicks (Mount Torrens).
