CASUALTIES.
RAILWAY FATALITY AT CROYDON.
AN OVERCROWDED TRAIN. At the Adelaide Police Court on Tuesday afternoon Mr. H. D. Gell, S.M. conducted an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Clifford Otto Stabernack 18), who was killed at the Croydon Railway Station on Saturday afternoon by falling between a moving train and the platform. Mr. G. T. Powlesland appeared on behalf of the Railway Department, and Mr. H. J. George represented the Locomotive Enginemen, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association.
Daniel M. Manning said the deceased was his nephew. They were going to the football on Saturday.
Leslie Walter May, of Evington, near Rosewater, said he saw the deceased attempt to board the next to last carriage, and he next noticed him turning round on the platform. The train was over crowded, and the passengers did not seem to make room on the gangways and entrances. Deceased fell between the last two carriages. The train was stopped, and Dr. Magarey, who was on the train, pronounced life extinct.
Roy C. Howie, railway porter, said he saw the deceased try to seize tlie handrail. He appeared to secure a good hold, but owing to the carriage being overcrowded he had no place on which to put his feet, and fell. One foot was run over. The train was about two minutes late owing to the heavy passenger traffic.
Mr. Gell - Did any of the S.A.R. officers tell the people to get off the gangways? - I told the passengers to go into the centre of the carriage, but they would not do so.
Mr. Powlesland - Was everything clear when the signal to proceed was given? - Yes.
Charles K. Ashhurst, railway porter, said before the train reached Croydon the platform was crowded, and many were unable to board the train at that station. When he gave the signal to go on he saw nobody trying to get on board. He later noticed the deceased being dragged between the carriage and the platform.
Mr. Gell found that the deceased came to his death at the Croydon Station on Saturday afternoon by accidentally falling between a carriage ard the platform. No blame was attachable to any one.

Tweedvale:
. . . . .
The young man, Mr. Clifford Otto Stabernack, who met with his death as the result of a train accident at the Croydon (Adelaide) railway station on Saturday, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. O. Stabernack, of Tweed vale. - Like his parents and only sister, the unfortunate young man bore the reputation of a sterling character, and the early termination of such a promising and useful career is deeply lamented by all the local towns people, who extend to his parents and sister their heartfelt sympathy.

For the Children by Remus:
. . . . .
Mr. J. O. Stabernack, of Tweedvale, was sent me a very kindly acknowledgment of the remarks made in last week's Page in reference to the tragic death of his son and our dear comrade Clifford Stabernack. I thank Mr. Stabernack sincerely for his very helpful note. - It is not often that one's attempt to comfort another in affliction meets lwith any response, and the warmth and sincerity of Mr. Stabernack's message both grateful and encouraging. I can only again, assure Mr. Stabernack of the entire sympathy of every correspondent of this Page. We are all one, and the bond that unites us is the bond of love, which is the bond of all good.
