The Mildura Cultivator Saturday 26 January 1918 Local News: An official intimation was received yesterday to the effect that No. 11918 Gunner Oliver Leslie Branford, son of Mr and Mrs E. Branford of Irymple, died at the Second Casualty Clearing Station in France on the 14th January. It appears that he received a gunshot wound in the neck and it is suspected that the bullet penetrated the lung. We did not know the young man but understand that he was 24½ years of age when he enlisted which was the same time as the late Norman H. Simmons. We extend our sympathies to the sorrowing family, whose son and brother, however, died a hero's death.
