Observer (Adelaide, SA : 1905 - 1931) Sat 17 Sep 1910 Weddings: -Toop-Avery.- A military wedding took place in the Morchard Institute on September 7. The contracting parties were Grace Shackley Avery, of Coomooroo, seventh daughter of Cr. Thomas Avery, and Lieut. H. A. Toop, eldest son of Far.-Sgt. Toop, of Morchard, Chairman of Orroroo District Council. The hall was decorated with a canopy of swords and lances, with wedding bell, fern, ribbon, and flowers extending from centre of arch. Drapings of lace curtains were adorned with initials of bride and brides groom. The wedding breakfast was partaken of in the supper room at the back of the hall. The bridal table was tastefully decorated with fern, creeper, flowers, and wedding bells, with initials of bride and bridegroom. The bride was attended by her two sisters, Misses Martha and Alma Avery, and two trainbearers, little Misses Ida Toop and Connie Wilkin (niece of bride). The bridegroom was attended by his two brothers, Pte. W. A. Toop as best man, and Tpr. Toop as groomsman. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a gold albert, the bridegroom's to bride a diamond ring, to the bridesmaids an opal ring and gold pearl set heart and chain; to trainbearers, gold bell pins. The follow ing toast list was observed:-"The King," Col. T. Hancock; "Bride and bridegroom," Rev. E. M. Ingamells. B.A.; bridegroom replied; "Bridesmaids, Tpr. Toop; Pte. W. A. Toop replied. In the evening a reception was held. Songs, recitations, overtures, interspersed with parlour games, and dancing. Supper followed. The happy couple left next morning en route for Syd ney. The bride wore a charming semi Princess gown of white china silk, richly braided, and trimmed with satin applique. The court train was fastened on shoulders with satin cords and ornaments. The tulle veil was fastened with orange blossom, and she carried beautiful shower bouquet of white orchids and roses. Miss B. Avery wore heliotrope stripe ninon, trimmed in sertion and braid, hat of darker shade. She carried 'bouquet of daffodils and asparagus fern. Miss A. Avery, pale-green stripe ninon, trimmed Oriental embroidery and braid, hat to match, bouquet of daffodils and fern; Mrs. T. Avery, black chiffon taffeta gown, trimmed sequin and jet, black toque; Mrs. VV". Toop. . black silk taffeta gown, black sequin zouave, black and white picture hat; the Misses Ida Toop and Connie Wilkin wore little cream silk frocks trimmed val. lace, and insertion, large cream hats with pink flowers, and carried crooks with marguerites. The bride's travelling dress was of green eolienne, trimmed silk lace and silk to match, pretty tuscan chip hat with wreath of pink roses and shot ribbon. Lieut. Horatio A. Toop is very popular with his brother officers and troop, who attended in uniform and formed a guard of honour to bride and groom at the institute hall with crossed rifles up the aisle to the canopy. Far.-Sgt. Toop nas been connected will the military for over 20 years, and was one of those who formed the Orroroo Mounted Rifle Corps in 1900. The family are actively interested in military matters. Lieut. H. A. Toop joined many years ago as trumpeter, and two younger brothers have followed suit. Besides being good soldiers, they are keen rifle shots, Lieut. Toop having recently secured the gold medal against all cornel's at Port Pirie. Far.-Sgt. Toop won the ladies' bracelet at Port Adelaide some years ago. The heads of both families are successful farmers, and during the past three years have harvested somewhere about 12.000 bags of wheat, besides wool and lambs. About 70 guests sat down to a bountiful breakfast, and about 200 to supper after reception; while plenty more could have been supplied with good things over. Although the even ing was wet, the hall was crowded with guests from many miles around, showing the great respect in which both the bride and bridegroom's families are held.
