Barrier Miner Saturday 18 July 1896 DEATH OF THE REV. T. RASTON [By Telegraph] Adelaide Saturday The Rev. Thomas Raston, Wesleyan Minister, died yesterday, aged 81. He went as a Missionary to Sierra Leone, in West Africa, 50 years ago, and arrived in Australia in 1852.
The Adverrtiser Monday 20 July 1896 CHURCH INTELLIGENCE. THE LATE REV. T. RASTON. The funeral of the Rev. Thomas Raston, who died on Friday, took place at the Payneham Cemetery on Sunday afternoon, the procession an exceedingly long one. Services were held both at the deceased gentleman's residence at Kent Town and at the grave, the Rev P. C. Thomas (president of the Wesleyan Conference), H. T. Burgess, H. H. Teague, and R. S. Casely taking part. The chief mourners-were Messrs E. A. Raston, A. L. Raston, H. W. Waterhonse and James Scott, Mesdames E. A. Raston and Sons, Misses Raston and O. Raston, and Master W. Raston. Around the grave were many old friends, including the Revs. T. E. Edmeades, C. H. Ingamells, J. B. Stephenson, G. E. Wheatley, C. H. Goldsmith, and W. Reed, the Hon. A. Catt, M.P., Messrs. F. Chapple, B.A., B.Sc, J.Hill, H. Clement,T. White, S. James; J.B. Champion, James Marshall, C. Pitt, A. Thomas, J. Sparnon, J. H. Gartrell, T. H. Broad, F. Bricknell, A. O. Chambers, R. H. Eathlean, B. Kelly, M Thomas, R. J. Coombs, F. Macklin, T. Millner, F. W. Dunn, H. Newman, J. B. Bull, H. Buring, T. Caterer, D. Robin, G. Hunt, Colliver, and Rowe. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Pengelley and Knabe.
