Fred was a farmer all his working life. He first worked in partnership with his father, George, and brother, Ted, on a property at Laura. Then he moved his growing family to a wheat and sheep farm at Everard (nr Blyth). But this venture lost money and they had to move again eight years later. They had just enough money to pay the deposit on a small dairy farm at Waitpinga, where they remained until 1956. Fred was reluctant to apply for the pension, but was eventually forced to do so when at 74 years old he was no longer able to work the farm. (Ref. Bob Howlett)
Fred married Nellie Laura CAMPBELL [1047] [MRIN: 136], daughter of William Horne CAMPBELL [1089] and Selina SMITH [1090], on 7 Sep 1910 in Baptist Church, Laura, South Australia. (Nellie Laura CAMPBELL [1047] was born on 25 Jun 1884 in Laura, South Australia, died on 22 Aug 1967 in Strathalbyn, South Australia and was buried in Strathalbyn, South Australia.)
