The Will of John Hughes 23rd June 1770 In the Name of God, Amen. I John Hughes of Tadcaster in the County of York, Limeburner being weak of Body but of sound Mind and Memory blessed by Almighty God for the same Do make and publish my last Will and Testament in Writing as follows ( That is to say ) First I give and bequeath to my Son John Hughes the Sum of one hundred Pounds. I do also give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Hughes the Sum of Fifty Pounds, which said Legacies or Sums of Money I will and order to be hereafter paid to the respective Legatees as soon as they shall respective, and severally arrive at the Age of Twenty one years Also I will and order that if either my said Son and Daughter shall die before he or she shall arrive at the Age of Twenty one Years then both the said Legacies or Sums of Money shall be paid to the Surviving Legatee as soon as he or she shall arrive at the Age of twenty one Years. I further will and order that if both my Son and Daughter shall die before they arrive at the Age of twenty one Years then the said Legacies or Sums of Money shall be paid to my beloved Wife immediately after their Decease And if my Son and Daughter and Wife shall die before my said Son and Daughter shall arrive at the age of twenty one years then the said legacies or Sums of Money shall be equally divided amongst the children of William Hughes junior of Newton Farmer and of Thomas Butler of Beverley Malster both in the said County as soon as they shall severally and respectively arrive at the Age of twenty one Years and to all the Rest Residue and Reminder of my personal Estate Goods and Chattels of what kind or nature so-ever I give and bequeath the same to my beloved Wife Mary Hughes. Lastly I hereby appoint my beloved Wife Mary Hughes, John Stappleton of Tadcaster aforesaid Limeburner and the above said William Hughes junior of Newton Joint-Executors of this my last Will and Testament; and do will and desire that they will put out the said legacies or Sums of Money to interest immediately after my Decease and the yearly Interest to be applied towards maintaining my said Son and Daughter till they shall respectively and severally arrive at the Age of twenty one Years as aforesaid. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twenty third Day of June in the Eleventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third and the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy.
