FATAL ACCIDENT.

Mount Torrens. June 12. A sad accident, which terminated fatally, happened at the Palmer Quarry yesterday to Thomas Bartholomew, a resident of this town. When quarrying stone several tons fell from above across his legs, breaking them in several places. He was conveyed to the doctor, but died before reaching Gumeracha. Deceased was believed to be the first male child born in the colony.

MOUNT TORRENS, June 14.
A sad accident occurred at Palmer on June 11, by which Thomas Bartholomew, an old and respected resident of Mount Torrens, lost his life. The deceased was employed in a stone quarry, when a fall of stone and earth pinned him to a bank, breaking his legs in several places and otherwise injuring him. Messrs. Hooper and Nitschke quickly dug him out, and Messrs. Hooper and Weinert started with the poor fellow for the hospital, but he died before Gumeracha was reached. The deceased, who was a widower, was for over 20 years a member of the Mount Torrens Lodge, I.O.O.F., and his funeral to-day was largely attended by the brothers of the order in black regalia, the brothers bearing him to his last resting-place. The deceased, who was 53 years of age, was supposed to have been the first male child born in South Australia. He leaves four sons, three daughters, and one grandchild. He had many friends.
