PERSONAL NEWS.
The death of Mrs Annie Stephens, widow of the late Mr. Richard Stephens, which occurred at her residence, Melbourne-street, North Adelaide, on Thursday, has removed another well-known and widely respected colonist, whose residence in South Australia covers a period of over 70 years. Mrs. Stephens, who at the time of her death, was 77 years of age, was brought to South Australia when a child of three, by her parents. Her father, the late Mr. John Dawson, who had won distinctions and medals in the Persian war, settled at Stratbalbyn, and the family became well-known throughput the district. After her marriage Mrs. Stephens went to reside at Yorke Peninsula, where her husband opened a sheep-station. After several years' successful pastoral enterprise, the land was subdivided for agricultural purposes, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephens came to reside in Adelaide. For many years the deceased lady was an active member of the Hindmarsh-square Congregational Church, and latterly had been associated with the North Adelaide Congregational Church. She was interested in philanthropic movements, and was a good worker for charitable causes. Her three sons, Messrs. James and Charles, of Eden Valley, and Richard, of New South Wales, were at one time conspicuous in football circles. Mrs. Bruce Coulter is a daughter of the deceased, who also left nine grandchildren. She had been in delicate health for some months prior, to her death.
