The Express and Telegraph (Adelaide, SA : 1867 - 1922) Tue 5 Jan 1886 Page 2 Threatening Language. Henry Lippy was charged on the information of bis wife, Agnes Lippy, with using threatening language towards her, from which she was afraid that he would do her bodily injury. Defendant denied the charge in toto, whereupon his wife interjected " Oh, you are a liar; oh, you are a liar; if Mr. Beddome were here, he would know you." Defendant was ordered to find two sureties of £5 each, and bind himself in one of £10, to keep the peace for three months.
The Express and Telegraph (Adelaide, SA : 1867 - 1922) Tue 18 Sep 1888 Page 2 POLICE COURT - ADELAIDE THIS DAY. Tuesday, September 18. [Before Mr. B. Beddome.'P.M.] . . . . . Henry Lippy was charged with burglariously entering the house of Edwin Strathan and stealing, therefrom three pillows, a hair brusb, and a-comb. Strathan left his house on September 15 at about 7 p.m., fastening and bolting the windows and doors. On his return at 9.30 p.m. he discovered Lippy in the house. He went for a constable, and in the meantime Lippy had "made tracks." The articles he was accused of stealing were found in the stable attached to Strathan's house in Waymouth-street. A remand was granted till the following day to allow an important witness to be called for the defence. . . . . .
The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 - 1929) Fri 11 May 1923 Page 12 A CARETAKER ACQU ITTED. The adjourned case, in which Henry Lippy (74), a caretaker, of Rosina street, Adelaide, was charged with having been in unlawul possession of a quantity of brass jocks and furniture fittings occupied the attention of the Adelaide Police Court on Thursday morning (before Mr. L.H. Haslam, S.M.). Detective Gill gave detailed evidence similar to that at the previous hearing. Albert Johhn Woods deposed that he was an employee of F.H. Ring & Co., about a month ago, but had since left. He remembered telling accused after the fire, at Ring's factory that he could take any old wood for firewood that was lying about, but he did not give him express authority to remove the fittings. Those were stored in a small shed adjoining Lippy's yard. Cross-examined by accused, witness said he did tell him that he could take what he liked, but he thought he would know he should not touch the fittings. Accused, on oath, said he had been caretaker for Ring & Co. for three years. About three weeks after the fire he was talking to Mr.Woods, who told him that if there was anything about the place he wanted he could take it. He understood that to mean anything that was there. He removed things from a box which fell to pieces and placed them in a tub. He did not do so with the intention of taking them altogether, because he had never looked at them since. Accused's wife stated that she told her husband he should take the fittings back. He promised he would do so, but had neglected to do the duty. Frank Harold Ring said the fittings were obsolete, and not of much value. He had always found the accused honest in every way. The S.M. said defendant had evidently made a mistake in interpreting the meaning of Mr Wood's remark, and he did not think he had any evil intention. It was not unreasonable for him to think so, seeing that the goods were obsolete and had been in the shed for three years. He therefore dismissed the information.
