The Journal Transcription. This is the transcription of the Journal
done by Geoffrey Kirkwood Ryder and others, interspersed with
images.
The Journal: This button takes you to images of the Locked
Journal of Joseph Ryder, available by the courtesy of Mr L G Ryder
the present head of the family, (a big file sometimes slow to open fully).
Contributors: This Family History has been my hobby for the last
20yrs with the much valued help of other family & friends listed

Ryder Family: This is a descendant tree from William Ryder the
unproven progenator, each generation is contained on one page linked
to the next page (generation) by their issue.
Hughes Family: Again a descendant tree from ....... Hughes the proven
progenitor, each generation linked as described above.

Memoirs Diaries Journals: A collection as follows:
•
Detailed Memoir by Arthur Gunter 1862 - 1948 of his long life in
England & Australia. Written in 1940 with 103 pages it is a most
interesting read. Courtesy of the State Library of Queensland.

Diary of Robert Toshach 1886 on trip to NZ from Scotland on the
“Loch Sloy”

Journal written by John Broadbent in 1852 of his journey to the
Victorian gold fields of Mt Alexander.

A long Newspaper article on Mt Barker South Australia in the
early days, with data on the Hughes family in the area
•
Diary kept by Amelia Binfield Ryder 1865/66, copied into the
Locked Journal by her sister Isabella in 1912, with a transcription.
•
Memorials of Rev Thomas Ryder 1840-1875 of Nottingham England
who died in Hartford America. Dedicated to remembrance of
his life & ministry, it includes his Funeral Address and much else,
some 2000 mourners attended his burial in Nottingham.

A pedigree of descendants of George Waterhouse Padman 1851-1890
of Adelaide SA
•
Winston Stanley Cannell was tragically killed in a RNZAF aircraft
accident in Nov. 1941. This is a report on the Court of Enquiry
that was held.
•
Cherry Gardens is a semi rural suburb of South Adelaide SA, a
number of the Broadbent and other family members lived in the area.
This is an 1850 newspaper report of a Petition by residents in the area
for a better Postal service.
•
Jane (Jessie) Hocking 1886-1998 had a long life, her vivid &
detailed recollections of it were recorded by her daughter Joan
Cassin at the time of Jessie’s 100th birthday. The narrative takes
you from New South Wales to Western Australia.
